This week happens to be National Park Week. As I stated in my previous post about Joshua Tree National Park on this subject, we don’t have any national parks here in Amarillo. BUT, we DO have the closeby Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument (I visited and posted about that spot here) and Lake Meredith National Recreation area. So if you do live in the panhandle of Texas, there’s still time to get out and celebrate National Parks week! (Alibates and Meredith are about 45 minutes away)
Seeing how all of this celebration will be over tomorrow, I thought I’d share photos from another National Park we visited back in 2007.
Did you know we are celebrating 100 YEARS of national parks service this year? This centennial anniversary is doing all kinds of fun things to celebrate. The United States mint in releasing several new coins, with proceeds from coin sales going to the National Park Foundation. Cool new coins AND money going to National Parks; it’s a win-win!
Did you know there are 407 National Parks!?
This road trip took us to many places. Utah specifically allowed us to visit Arches, Bryce Canyon and Zion. All of them beautiful in their own right and totally worth the visit!

They want to get the next generation out and visiting the parks so we can enjoy these natural wonders for years to come! You can tag photos on social media with #FindYourPark
Were you able to get out and enjoy a national park this week? I’d love to know which one!
