The Nativity Doors of La Sagrada Família

As I mentioned before, there are two “sides” to La Sagrada Família: the Nativity side and the Resurrection side.  At the Nativity entrance, the whole facade represents Jesus’ birth and his early life.  The door you walk through to enter the basilica is designed with leaves, flowers and beetles-a representation of all of life rejoicing the birth of Jesus.  These bronze behemoths were created by Japanese sculptor Etsuro Sotoo, a long-time follower of Antoni Gaudí and collaborator in construction on the basilica since 1978.  These doors were finally installed in 2015 in the “Portal of Charity”.
